This custom Merbau pool deck in Ormond was designed and built to follow the natural curves of an existing kidney-shaped swimming pool, creating a seamless connection between the pool, home and surrounding outdoor living area.

The homeowners wanted to create a high-quality timber entertaining area around their existing swimming pool while maintaining the distinctive curved shape of the pool.
Rather than using a conventional straight-edged deck design, the goal was to have the timber follow the pool's natural contours, creating a more integrated and visually appealing transition between the pool and surrounding outdoor space.

Unlike a conventional rectangular deck, the Merbau boards needed to be carefully measured and precision-cut to follow the sweeping curve of the existing pool edge. Maintaining consistent spacing and a clean finished line around this area required considerably more attention to detail than a standard straight deck installation.
Challenges
VicBuilt constructed the supporting timber framework around the existing pool before installing premium Merbau decking across the outdoor area.
Around the curved end of the swimming pool, individual decking boards were carefully measured and cut to follow the pool's shape, producing a smooth transition alongside the mosaic-tiled edge.
The natural warmth of the Merbau complements the blue pool and tiled surrounds, while the carefully finished curved section turns what could have been a difficult construction detail into one of the project's strongest visual features.
